The maintenance department is staffed by three highly skilled mechanics who are responsible for the daily
repair and upkeep of over one hundred vehicles and other pieces of mechanical equipment required to keep
the City operational. Having maintenance people on staff enables the City to save taxpayer dollars
by extending the useful life of vehicles and equipment through diligent care, plus we do not have to
contract out repair jobs to private companies. It is estimated that tens of thousands of dollars
per year are saved due to our maintenance shop.
When the City opted to provide garbage collection services rather than contracting it out, a new shop was
built in order to accomodate the larger vehicles. The new shop is state of the art in terms of both
equipment and energy efficiency. This addition brought the total number of bays available for repair
work up to six and allows enough space for everything from lawnmowers to heavy road construction equipment.
