SNOW REMOVAL POLICY SUMMARY
The Streets Department makes every effort to keep City roadways as clear and safe as possible during winter weather conditions.  Please be aware of the following points in regard to CIty snow removal.
bullet High-traffic and known problem areas receive priority
bullet Vehicles parked in the roadway hinder snow removal
bullet Shoveling or blowing snow into the roadway is illegal
bullet Plowing may result in snow pushed in front of driveways
During snow emegencies, the City requires that all vehicles and trailers be removed from the roadway.  Failure to remove vehicles may result in the vehicle or trailer being towed at the owner's expense.  For more detailed infromation and more suggestions, view our snow removal policy web page or call the streets department during regular business hours.
INFORMATION ABOUT ROUNDABOUT INTERSECTION SAFETY
roundSafeImage Compared to other types of intersections, roundabouts have demonstrated safety benefits.
bullet More than 90% reduction in fatalities*
bullet Up to 76% reduction in injuries*
bullet Up to 35% reduction in all crashes*
bullet Slower speeds are safer for pedestrians
* These statistics and images are provided by the US Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration.   For more information, download their roundabout brochure or visit their website.
roundPedImage Roundabouts also have a large number of very positive environmental impacts:
bullet Less pollution due to fewer stops, starts and idling time
bullet Less power consumption due to no signal equipment
bullet Often need less pavement and right of way area
bullet Quieter operation than traditional intersections
bullet More aesthetically pleasing and efficient
Roundabout intersections are also friendlier to both pedestrian and bicycle traffic.  The diagram to the right shows pointers for navigation of a roundabout for non-motorized traffic.  Pedestrians should walk around the outside outside, while bicycles flow with motorized traffic.
The video to the left contains information about roundabout intersection safety including the following key points:
bullet Yielding and merging
bullet Choosing your lane of travel
bullet Driving at appropriate speed
bullet Large vehicle safety
bullet Emergency vehicle awareness
bullet Pedestrian safety
bullet Bicyclist safety
